Activity 3.6. School-base teacher development (SBTD)


Highlight one challenge that the SBTD might present in your context, and one opportunity.

In my context as a special education instructor I have observed many challenges in SBTD one of which is the inability of some teachers to teach certain topics for the understanding of all students. With the SBTD operating, teachers have the opportunity to team teach. This allows a teacher who is strong in the area that a teacher may be weak in will teach that topic to the teacher’s class.

SBTD

I liked the idea of team teaching in a school. This shows a learner- centred attitude in a school. What is important is not ownership of the class but what they benefit from teaching and learning with resources available in the school. This is line with inclusive schools principle where teachers and other stakeholders share for the benefit of the learners.
