Activity 1.2 what make an inclusive school?

2 important features of an inclusive school.

1.       The positive attitude of its staff members. The positive attitude of the teachers towards each other and their vocation for teaching will reflect in their classroom management and interaction with students. Teachers should feel free to seek advice from colleagues as they work towards facilitating inclusion. Teachers show genuine care and concern for students by positive attitude should be welcoming to all students.

2.       The structure of the physical environment. Having read and looked at videos to me an inclusive school is one where all the teachers are trained, the building is equipped with ramps and railings giving children with mobility/physical disabilities the opportunity to move around safely and comfortably. The school should also have a resourceful resource room to meet the needs of all the children. Classrooms should be arranged in a way that allows the teacher and student free movement to get to one another without distracting each other.

I agree that a positive attitude and the physical layout of the school is important to creating an inclusive school. It creates a positive ethos that makes school a comfortable place where learning can take place.

1.2 Describe 2 important features of an Inclusive school. How they put into action in a school that you know.

I agree Positive thinking thinking and positive attitude must go together at all times if we need to support and enhance Inclusion practices in the classroom and the school environment to foster and serve   for ALL children 's learning progress.A open minded teacher with the principal that show care and are concern to everybody's learning not just for a few.or the main stream students in the classroom.Staff whom are ready to adapt and change their practices to the needs of their children all the time, also seeking help to the community, parents and stakeholders.

In addition the school environment has to reflect Inclusion too.The adapt to their population or students they serve. It must have wheelchairs for children who need it to help them move about because most homes can't provide wheel chairs.Rails in the classroom or toilet to help children to hold onto when using the toilet or shower.that need extra support ,provide ramps when needed .A school that encourages team work and peer grouping so students can learn and care for each other. Respect each other.A school that has appropriate resources like Brails or sign language to support the learning of a child.

Moreover like Lydia mentioned to understand the culture of the that school and children who attend that school - their culture.Creating a a Resource center is vital as part of the school environment to cater the learning disability of the child or a child that needs extra help in their learning  that will help the current teacher by the expert that works in the resource room or comes into the classroom to support I agree when a resource room is created with competent staff it will make the child with special needs or has disability to feel they are still part of the learning process at school.

As a Inclusive Officer I mobile around 4 Government Primary schools  and help children with my pre- prepared activities to cater children that need extra help in their reading of  the English  language. I have  a variety of activities  from letters to sound  words (consonant/vowels) to sentences based on the very simple stories we learn together. In our Inclusive unit ,our staff including myself we go and assist and support the teachers in showing inclusive practices by helping the teachers to be more positive in their attitudes towards inclusive practices in the classroom. We visit schools on a daily bases and follow up and learn to build a good relationship with the school staff although it is hard in the beginning

We also have 1 special need Classroom for children with trained staff that cater the needs of these children from Dumb to deaf to Autism. Our Ministry is looking to develop more special need classroom to cater children with special need Learning disabilities
