Developing Positive Attitudes

A few years ago, in one of my batches of students, I had a child who was admitted who was about 3 years older than the rest of the students, as she had some particular learning disabilities. I worked with the teachers to try to develop a specific education plan for her but faced many challenges in helping her to adjust to the assessment-oriented school environment and to the general attitudes of the teachers. Teachers did try to accommodate her learning however, due to a lack of awareness and specific training, were not able to enhance her individual capacity as best as possible. It was a new learning experience for me. Over two years, I worked with her private counselors and her parents, who were much better informed, to try to help engage her better. I still feel that we could have done more but lacked the proper training, awareness and time to do so.
