Activity 3.3

I think as educators we need to share and support each other on a wider level. I believe that there should be collaborative groups of teachers in districts that meet at least once per month and share ideas and support each other. Teachers can learn from each other and also assist in designing IEP for respective students.

3.3 Being an effective inclusive teacher

I agree Asha in your suggestion as a wider level by giving support and training to teachers through districts.

As a Inclusive officer I make school visits to 4 Central Primary schools here in Tonga. These Primary school teachers of these 4 selected schools have all had  formal training at our local Teacher's College. They have all achieved their Diploma in Education and Teaching certificate. Also they were given support in subject knowledge  required to teach the syllabus in our current schools which we learnt is the Knowledge for practice - theoretical knowledge about teaching .

However as a IE officer I am expected to support teachers on a consistent bases by sharing and reminding teachers the different types of knowledge that has they have all experienced, reflected on in order to evaluate and improve their own teaching.

On Fridays I revisit the schools I work with because they have an hour of staff meeting while their students are having religious instructions. Each   Friday per school we are able to discuss and go over the activities that I had demonstrated during the week,we are able to share knowledge on how I has organise my lesson, how I taught my lesson and how I responded to the learners through the activities I had prepared.

Within this hour we also were able with their Head teacher to reflect  on the context  - by discussing the the backgrounds of the students that need more attention in their learning die to the environment they come from. Our sharing helped us more to understand how to approach that particular child in the next lesson or in my next visit

I do believe it would be great idea to create a Professional Development  session where I can deliver the same support I am giving to these 4 Central Primary schools to  the remaining 7 Government Primary schools where we can learn to share the various knowledge of Practice to these remaining  teachers & Head teachers in order to develop new skills and share ideas.
