As a neighborhood board member, you play a key role in promoting the growth and well-being of your community. While this information may initially feel overwhelming, it’s important to remember that your primary responsibility as a neighborhood board member is to improve the community through the channels that are best for your neighborhood. The majority of these events/programs/resources are optional.

Your core duties as a board member include representing the concerns and interests of your neighbors by attending meetings, offering input, and making decisions that benefit the community as a whole. In addition, board members are responsible for fostering a sense of inclusivity and connection among residents.

Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing topics and discussions from public meetings
• Ensuring the neighborhood association adheres to its mission statement
• Updating and following the bylaws, which outline the organization's procedures and functional requirements
• Developing a comprehensive work plan that addresses identified issues, proposes solutions, and outlines strategies to meet these goals. Coordination with the City of Springfield’s Comprehensive Plan, Forward SGF, and other relevant plans is encouraged.
