4.1 The Preparation Process
Preparation for Series A fundraising typically begins long before the formal fundraising process itself. While founders often think of fundraising as a discrete event, Series A readiness is better understood as a gradual process of building the company to a level where institutional capital becomes both appropriate and effective.
Successful founders frequently begin preparing for Series A 12 to 18 months in advance, aligning strategy, operations and narrative to meet investor expectations.
Series A preparation is about intentionality. Investors want confidence that capital will be deployed thoughtfully, that risks are understood and managed, and that the business is positioned to grow in a disciplined and scalable way.
This preparation generally falls into three interrelated areas: strategic preparation, operational preparation and narrative preparation.
