EDI in research: a collection

Updated Monday, 12 May 2025

This Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in Research page is intended to inspire conversations amongst researchers (postgraduate, emerging and established) and their research teams. It contributes towards accomplishing The Open University’s mission of embodying Higher Education as open to people, places, methods and ideas. The pages drawn together here are designed to cultivate research cultures that value inclusion, innovation and responsiveness.

In writing these pages, we held to a belief that, ‘The academy won’t change overnight. Nor does change occur through purely demographic shifts. It will only change when standard structures of knowledge and power are confronted’ (Reyes, 2022, p. 1).

Each page aims at stimulating thought and discussion rather than provide a definitive guide. There are few concerns that cannot be resolved without careful deliberative thought.

You can view a working document on the project here (PDF document807.0 KB) .
