This free OpenLearn course is a two week pre-course for the Open University short course Introduction to Arabic Language and Culture by the Open Centre for Languages and Cultures.
Completing this course will take you about four hours.
This course focuses on the most basic steps in learning Arabic: you will learn the alphabet, vowels, and also learn a bit about different dialects and the history of the Arabic language. You are encouraged to listen to the audios, and practise writing.
Course learning outcomes
After studying this course, you should be able to:
- understand the Arabic writing system
- pronounce and write the Arabic alphabet
- understand the influence of Arabic on other languages.
