6 Summary of Session 1

In this opening session, you initially considered religious diversity in Europe and how it impacts differently on various countries and regions across the continent. You examined some of the evidence as to how young people perceive that diversity both in the present and the past and looked at a way in which you can explore views in your own group. You were then introduced to the RETOPEA clippings collection and explored examples of how it can be used in teaching about religious diversity and tolerance and how young people can be supported in their own exploration of the material on the RETOPEA website.

In the next session of the course, you will move on to consider how to help young people build on these initial discussions and explorations in planning to make a short film to present their own ideas.
