4 Ukraine information: Independence

This week’s festival is Ukrainian Independence Day, which is celebrated on 24 August. It is a public holiday. Parades, festivals, concerts and fireworks take place across the country. Ukrainians abroad also celebrate this memorable day, organising concerts and gatherings in their communities.

This year, it was marked by shows of solidarity with Ukraine around the world. In London, 10 Downing Street was decorated with sunflowers and the Ukrainian flag flew over government buildings.

Also in London, the Scots Guards played Kalush Orchestra’s Stefania, the song which won Eurovision for Ukraine. You can watch the original in Week 3, but this version is also brilliant!
