4 The alphabet

Look again at the Ukrainian for ‘Welcome’.

Ласкаво просимо! Laskavo prosimo!

You can see that Ukrainian has its own alphabet, but we have also given a version using the alphabet used for English. This is called the transliteration. Throughout the course, we give this in italics, so you don’t have to learn the Ukrainian alphabet at this stage. You can decide to learn it at any point. It depends on your goals and how much time you have.
