8 Summary of Week 4

This week has enabled you to gain knowledge and skills for accessing and providing the right support at the right time for your learners. You have considered how best to support learners with a range of varying mental health difficulties, from early indicators of mental illness through to responding effectively to certain emergency situations. Your learning will equip you with the confidence to signpost appropriately to relevant support and services.

The main learning points of this week are:

  • It is important to recognise the early indicators of poor mental health in adult learners.
  • To help support recovery, you can identify appropriate support and information.
  • Being aware of and how to respond to a potentially serious mental health crisis in your adult learner might be rare but is an important skill to have.

You are now halfway through the course. The Open University would really appreciate your feedback and suggestions for future improvement in our optional end-of-course survey [Tip: hold Ctrl and click a link to open it in a new tab. (Hide tip)] , which you will also have an opportunity to complete at the end of Session 8. Participation will be completely confidential and we will not pass on your details to others.

In Week 5 you will go on to explore the stigma associated with mental health and how to overcome it.

You can now go to Week 5.
