Session 1: Preparing to teach the climate emergency

Introduction

Session 1 gives you an indication of the issues that educators need to think about when preparing to teach about the climate emergency. You’ll begin by exploring which skills learners need. You’ll then consider the important issue of climate anxiety and how learners can be supported. You’ll also question what role individual actions play in addressing the climate emergency.

By the end of this session, you should be able to:

  • critically reflect on the skills required to address the climate emergency
  • identify ways of supporting your own and your learners’ wellbeing
  • critically evaluate the role of individual actions in addressing the climate emergency.
