Session 4: How to support your writing with OMT
Introduction
Whether you are learning a language for work, study, or pleasure, it is likely that sooner or later you will want to be able to write a text in your target language. Even though they should not replace your own knowledge, OMT can significantly enhance the efficiency and quality of your (academic) writing. They offer you access to diverse sources, facilitate multilingual understanding, and can be used as aide in the drafting and revision process. By integrating OMT thoughtfully and combining them with your own expertise, you can improve the quality of your writing.
Supporting academic writing with OMT involves leveraging these tools to enhance both the efficiency and quality of the writing process. In this session you will focus on using OMT in academic or professional writing. You will learn how you can support your writing and research with the help of OMT and how to reference it according to academic standards. You will also reflect on the future of language learning in light of OMT and large language models (LLM).
By the end of Session 4, you should be able to:
- understand if and how you can use OMT in academic writing
- reference OMT correctly in quotations and bibliographies
- reflect on the future of language learning with OMT
- recognise the relationship between OMT and large language models (LLM).
