5 Summary of Session 2
In this session, you have explored how online machine translation (OMT) can be used as an individualised learning tool to support vocabulary expansion, grammar understanding, and language skills in reading and listening.
In working through the activities, you have enhanced your vocabulary in your target language, identified key grammatical features, and practised translation skills. Through activities in French, German and Spanish, you had the opportunity to compare the outcomes of OMT with your own knowledge, to improve your own understanding of linguistic differences.
Remember that the activities in this session are just examples; they show what is possible and how OMT can be used as an individualised learning tool. Be curious and start to play around with the tools you like to use: make up your own activities and find more examples! The activities serve as a foundation for using machine translation creatively in both learning and teaching contexts, encouraging further exploration of its possibilities.
In Session 3, you will find out more about how you can use OMT to understand language structures and support your translations.
