4 Summary of Session 3
In this session, you have explored how you can use OMT for grammar learning, and how you can understand language structures and support your translations.
By completing the activities, you have strengthened your understanding of grammar in your target language, identified key grammatical features, and practised your translation skills. Through activities in French, German or Spanish you have had the opportunity to compare the results of OMT with your own linguistic knowledge, thus enhancing your understanding of linguistic differences.
Keep in mind that the activities you’ve worked on are just examples, demonstrating the potential of OMT as a personalised learning tool. Stay curious and experiment with the tools you like: create your own exercises and find additional examples! These activities provide a foundation for using machine translation creatively in both learning and teaching, encouraging further exploration of its possibilities.
In the final session of the course, you will focus on utilising OMT in academic or professional writing. You’ll explore how OMT can support your writing and research, and learn how to properly cite its use in line with academic standards. Additionally, you will reflect on the future of language learning in the context of OMT and large language models (LLM).
