1 How positive mental health supports learning

In Week 1 you were introduced to Dahlgren and Whitehead’s (2021) model for the social determinants of health. You looked at two of the course case studies and considered what factors from their social, economic and physical environments might be affecting their mental health and learning capability. This week you will be focusing more on the individual characteristics of learners that may play a part in their mental health function. This includes their thinking processes and attitudes to life as well as the meaning that they feel in their life. In particular you will explore the potential power of positive thinking, positive attitudes and a sense of meaning and purpose on mental wellbeing and learning.
