Interpreting correlation

Correlation shows a link between two variables. Interpreting this relationship with the context of the data is an important part of the PCAI cycle (Section 2.1). When correlation is found between two variables, some conclusions can usually be drawn.

For example, a negative correlation was found in one of (a), (b) and (c) in Activity 14. This suggests that there is a relationship between these two variables and that as one increases, the other decreases.

Thinking about the context of this example helps to ensure that a sensible conclusion is made.
