In this free course, you will discover what maths anxiety means, how a fear of maths can limit an
individual from reaching their potential and consider whether you may be affected by maths anxiety.
The course will introduce the Maths Anxiety Pathway (MAP) and how it can be used to help measure and reduce anxiety levels. By the end of this course you will be armed with a toolbox of methods and
strategies that will help you to safely and confidently tackle maths problems, whether that's in your
everyday life or as part of your studies.
Each session of this course will help you to DEAL with your maths anxiety. The DEAL (Describe, Explore, Act, Learn) process is an attainable way for you to work through maths anxiety and find strategies to help you succeed.
Course learning outcomes
After studying this course, you should be able to:
- understand how fear and anxiety can prevent effective use of mathematics
- describe the Maths Anxiety Pathway (MAP) and how it can be utilised to reduce fears and anxieties related to mathematics
- make use of available resources to reduce anxiety and fear
- utilise available resources within a safe space to study mathematics and monitor anxiety levels
- tackle mathematics problems in everyday life and study, using the MAP where required to monitor and reduce anxieties and fears.
