Local study groups and facilitation via WhatsApp

Next week, you will be invited to join a WhatsApp group through which we will provide some course facilitation and discussion. Participation in these groups will purely be to discuss the course and learning content.

In the mean time, participants may want to self-organise locally facilitated study groups. Study groups provide the opportunity for support, enriching discussions and to explore how the learning might be relevant in your own context or institution. In light of current social distancing guidelines we encourage participants to explore how WhatsApp or other platforms can be used effectively to form these local study groups and facilitate these discussions.

Webinar: Assessment and Feedback: How to optimise feedback to students on their assignments in order to promote motivation and engagement

Digital assessment is an evolving construct used in education to enrich, inform and complement the teaching process. Feedback, however, is often under-utilised and under-valued throughout this process and this is further highlighted with the introduction of electronic teaching and assessments. This webinar will discuss the issues raised by teachers and students about giving and receiving feedback, particularly in relation to the role of praise in feedback and to understand the role of feedback that matches the mark awarded for any particular assignment.

nQuire mission start

The nQuire platform is an online tool that enables people to take part or initiate their own scientific investigations. It has been designed to support learning through the provision of immediate and personalised feedback, hands-on participation and social interaction. Use the link above to access an activity we designed to promote peer learning and communication between teachers. It will be an opportunity for you to learn about how others are teaching during Covid-19 and get some advice from Open University experts about effective ways of teaching remotely.

Webinar: Our Journey: Supporting students to represent their study journeys and supporting educators to understand their students

How well do we understand our students?
How can they capture and reflect on their goals, achievements and challenges along their study journeys?
In this session we will introduce some of our research into the representation of study journeys and our development of the Our Journey platform. This is a means for students to reflect on their personal development and wellbeing, and a way for educators and institutions to gain greater understanding of diverse student experiences and responses to particular events. We will explore how you can use Our Journey for your own learning during the Pathways programme, and how online and distance learning can require more emphasis on active engagement by staff and students to make the invisible visible.

Webinar: From instructional design to learning design and beyond

This practical session will enable academics to review and develop their own subject specialised approaches to designing exceptional learning moments for their students. The session will provide you with and understanding of instructional and learning design that you will be applying, during the session, to your own learners needs. This is achieved through a tricky topic process that has been successfully applied across domains in Africa, Europe, Myanmar and Thailand. These activities will directly support the follow-on session that applies this understanding into developing Open Educational Resources.
