LCLC is intended to encourage and promote the study of languages which are traditionally less popular choices for university applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds. The languages included in the programme for the new centre are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Persian, Portuguese and Spanish, as well as a focus on applied linguistics.

Welcome to this introductory training resource about multilingualism and mental health. The resource is for trainee and qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, supervisors, psychological wellbeing practitioners, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health nurses, social workers, family therapists, interpreters and anyone else interested in multilingualism and mental health. The resource consists of an introduction and ten sections. The first eight sections are about a trainee therapist, Frankie, who is feeling de-skilled and lost when dealing with his current clients. The sections contain filmed extracts of dramatised sequences from therapy cases, introduced and/or followed by exercises and questions. Section 9 contains two filmed extracts of a different scenario. Section 10 contains a summary, evaluation and review. The resource can be used on its own, or as an introduction to the issues of identity, emotional expression and trauma for multilingual clients and practitioners.
This course teaches aspects of Scots, one of the three indigenous languages spoken in Scotland alongside English and Scottish Gaelic. This is not a conventional language course – it teaches the Scots language through the culture where it is spoken, underlining the role of Scots in Scottish society past and present. The course is written for a broad audience ranging from Scots speakers, people who want to find out about Scots as well as teachers and other educators.

This short course is aimed at teachers of Spanish working mostly in the United Kingdom who wish to extend their theoretical knowledge on teaching Spanish pronunciation. It will also suggest ideas and practical skills that can be used in the classroom be it virtual or face-to-face. This course aims at teaching students some techniques for translating texts between Arabic and English. It also provides some translated texts, detecting translation errors, translating some culture-specific idioms, expressions.
