It think its best to begin with a discussion session around sustainability using the four R's on a large sheet of paper. Faculties rarely get a platform to discuss this so a meaningful and thoughtful discussion would be a great start. Each faculty will no doubt have different areas for improvement and once these are identified it would be helpful to feedback findings/results at future CPD events using the 4 R's as a benchmark.

Summary of Thinking: Integrating Compassion and Sustainability

Summary of Thinking for Activity 2.3 Forum Discussion

My engagement with Activity 2.3, particularly the "eight dimensions, eight questions" activity from Stephen Sterling's Future Fit Framework, has significantly deepened my understanding of sustainability literacy and its integration into educational practice. I've come to appreciate that developing sustainability literacy goes beyond simply imparting environmental facts; it requires a holistic approach that fosters critical thinking, ethical considerations, and a sense of responsibility towards both people and the planet. The emphasis on "pedagogies of compassion" resonates strongly, suggesting that true sustainability education must cultivate empathy and a desire for collective well-being, moving beyond individualistic approaches.

I am particularly interested in exploring how the "eight dimensions, eight questions" can serve as a practical tool for self-reflection and collaborative planning among educators. It appears to offer a structured way to assess current practices, identify gaps, and strategically integrate sustainability across various disciplines and learning experiences. I believe that by systematically addressing these dimensions, we can move towards a more integrated and impactful approach to sustainability education, ensuring that learners are not only knowledgeable but also empowered to act as agents of positive change.
