Activity 8.2 How did you extend your understanding?

When you have considered your learning from Units 5–7 write a post of around 200 words. Use this post to look forward and to make commitments about how you intend to put your learning from the course into action with your learners in your context. 

a. What change can you make tomorrow?

b. What changes may take some thought and organisation and therefore will be made soon?

c. What long-term changes might you make?

Post your ideas and read what others have posted.

This post is important for assessing your eligibility for a badge. Comment on the good ideas you read there.

Remember that, to obtain your digital badge, you must have posted a contribution to at least one forum in Units 1–7 and one of the forums in Unit 8. You must have also completed the quiz at the end of Unit 5 and scored at least 80%.

Tomorrow, I can slow the pace of learning and intentionally create space for reflection and dialogue. Simple practices such as brief check-ins or open-ended questioning can help position learning as shared and relational rather than rushed or content-driven.

In the near future, I can introduce more collaborative and enquiry-based activities, such as small group projects connected to real-world or place-based issues. These changes require some planning and support but can quickly encourage learner agency and shared responsibility.

Long-term, I aim to embed sustainable and compassionate pedagogies into my practice by consistently valuing relationships, sharing power with learners, and advocating for more flexible curricula that support transformative learning.

Seems like a useful plan. Has to be carefully worked out as change doesn't happen overnight. It's hard to change mindsets sometimes but slowly I think a commitment to change can be made

If I were still working in early years I could start to introduce there ideas tomorrow. We as early years educators already have the basis for employing sustainable pedagogies. But it needs to be directed into something that will be impactful and involve a wider community than just the pre-school. It would need to develop out of a passion that the children have . So we need to introduce them to the 'wicked' problems such as waste management in their own classroom - then develop that into a larger partnership project involving parents.
But it would need the agreement of all staff if it is going to become a reality. So training would be needed to introduce them to the nature of sustainable pedagogies( which will likely be new to them) and what that means in terms of local, national and international repercussions. So it would definitely need a long term strategy in which each person becomes part of a collaborative team
