Hi everyone,
I thought I’d jump in and share a bit about my experience working with big data—specifically in a project focused on urban mobility.
We were helping a city transport department make sense of data from GPS systems, public transport ticketing, and traffic sensors. It was a lot of data—definitely a classic “big data” scenario with huge volume, lots of different formats, and information coming in super fast.
Honestly, one of the biggest challenges wasn’t the data itself, but trying to make it usable. We spent a ton of time just cleaning it up and stitching everything together. Some sensors gave inconsistent results, and not all data was accurate—so making sense of it required a careful approach.
But once we got it working, the insights were amazing. We could spot patterns like overcrowded bus routes or peak traffic hours that weren’t obvious before. It really helped the city rethink some of its transport schedules, which was super rewarding to see.
Has anyone else here worked on big data projects, especially in a city or public service setting? Would love to hear how you handled data quality or processing challenges.
Looking forward to hearing your stories!
Cheers,
jaishree
