A situation I experienced while assisting at a kindergarten was when a child with dwarfism had difficulty accessing the classroom activity resources for coloring and drawing. The items were placed on a designated shelf that the children could reach. The other children teased him for a moment, however the teacher reminded the children of being kind to one another and the good manners poster. She assured the class that the child’s height was no problem and placed a small custom made wooden box near the shelf for him to reach the supplies like the others. He was happy and was able to reach the crayons and paper the rest of that time. It was nice to see the teacher challenging the attitude of the children and encouraging instead to have a positive attitude towards their classmate and see that he can still be a part of the class activities as them.
