As Educators our professional development is ongoing. I have recently participated in webinars based on Autism Awareness. In attending the webinar sessions there was one on Learning through play. This was the last session of the webinar. It was not only for teachers but parents as well and those who work with children with autism and other special needs. I am at the ECCE level and one of principles that governs our practice is leanring through play. I was able to understand more about Autism and.how to incorporate play in helping children or child develop and learn who had Autism. It was very interesting how the presenters presented play to help children with Autism to communicate. This will inform my practice and how I work with children at my level.who are autistic. It was really helpful for the parents as.well. I found that what I learnt can work for learners who are.not autistic as well. We use learning through play all the time at my level of teaching and I did realise that we do incorporate some of the strategies mentioned and I just saw it being highlighted through the webinar and I also learnt alot that can be practiced to ensure quality education and inclusion for our learners.
