Professional Development

My experience where I acquired and engaged in a professional development course surrounding this topic was exhilarating. I was granted the opportunity to visit a school for one week. The exposure shed light on so many things. I was able to interact with the teachers and some of the children. The hands on materials they used were targeted for their specific needs. I learnt so much from that short week. I was able to utilize the information I received in my class. Hence I do believe that teachers should be exposed to short training and allowed to implement it within their setting.

I fully support your belief that teachers should be exposed to ongoing professional development. Without a doubt, it eliminates the prospect of teachers becoming stagnated in their teaching practices, approaches and methods. Therefore, increasing opportunities to develop the necessary skills and knowledge that will enable them to facilitate a learning environment that supports inclusion and diversity.

You are quite right, continuous professional development helps to mitigate the issue of stagnation and outdated teaching methods and practices. It benefits not only the students but teachers themselves as skills, knowledge and attitudes are enhanced.
