Activity 1.2 What makes an inclusive school?

In an inclusive school, policies should create a culture that welcomes all students and encourages diversity. Students should feel culturally safe and accepted as valued members of the school community.

The physical environment should enable students on wheel chairs or with mobility challenges to move around in the school's environment. For example, ramps and adaptive washrooms. This is the removal of barriers in the built environment.

In an inclusive school, parents should be regarded as partners or a critical factor in their child's learning. Parental participation and involvement should be encouraged or facilitated by having regular meetings to monitor the child's progress at school.
