Activity 1.2 What makes an Inclusive School

Two features of an inclusive school are;

    1. The attitude of teachers and staff

    2. The physical environment

As mentioned in the blog, an inclusive school should be one that validates the child. The attitude of the teachers, administrators, janitors and all staff members can determine whether the child feels safe, comfortable and gets a sense of belonging or alienation. The teacher should show eagerness and should encourage and praise the child's efforts to succeed.

The school's visible attempts to adapt the physical environment to accommodate disabled children is also very important. Installing ramps, rails, appropriate toilet facilities and including resource rooms and assistants show that the school is well prepared and very welcoming.
