Activity 3.2: Experiences of professional development

Professional Development Experience

As an educator, I have been invited to several workshops that added to my knowledge and led to the development of my professionalism in the field of early childhood care and education. I have benefited tremendously from all the workshops I have attended because I personally believe I am open-minded when it comes to learning new information and susceptible to change. For example, I participated in an activity plan workshop where I learnt how to prepare effective and meaningful activity plans and topic webs. When I returned to the early childhood classroom environment I was able to plan and implement activities that were developmentally appropriate for young children. Attending the workshop also built my confidence and self-esteem in my professional field. Therefore, I no longer questioned my ability when it comes to planning activities.

Professional Development .Experience

Change definitely is one of the experiences I would have gotton from professional development workshops. Change is very constant and in this present world so much has changed even when we were not ready for it but we had to embrace it as educators and move forward with it . Education is always changing and if we want to become  better teachers we have to  welcome change be it a change in knowledge, skills or attitudes professional development programmes are there to help us do this. I have had the opportunities to attend professional development workshops and it helped me to become independent and also to form learning communities with people I woild have met these professional development workshops  has helped me to develop new skills , improve  my self confidence ,  develop knowledge of new  methods and techniques  for teaching for example I remember attending a phonics workshops that allowed me new knowledge of teaching  phonics through culturally appropriate music genres. Through these workshopes I was able to be more practical in the  classroom , set higher standards for myself, endorse a new learning  culture and allow my students a better experience.

True Sawh, change is inevitable and teachers must change with times to embrace new innovations.  Involving every teacher in inclusive education is one such change.

Hi Sattee, I can totally agree with your post, I am also an Early Childhood teacher and also attended countless workshops that have benefitted me within my twelve years in the teaching profession. I also remembered doing a workshop on activity planning when I was training, it made a huge impact when I reached into the classroom. That workshop and so many others have made a positive impact in my career thus far as I continue to grow and gain new knowledge.
