I attended a Professional development workshop in December 2019, it was the Think Equal Programme. The Ministry Of Education and UNESCO partnered to share the wealth of information to teachers. The programme aim was to build on children's social and emotional intelligence. One of the first thing that was showed to us was a brown crayon. That crayon represented our complexion, we were told that "no one is black or white, we are different shades of brown."
UNESCO sent concrete materials to be used in the classroom. There was a variety of learning styles that was used such as, songs, art work, discussions and role play. This helped with the different learning styles within the environment. The teachers noticed the confidence children began to display and they built healthy relationships with their peers. They were able to identify their feelings and manage their emotions. I found this programme to be helpful because everyone has equal value and it helps children to be comfortable with themselves and others.
