Activity 1.5- Creating an inclusive ethos and culture

Two factors I think are particularly effective in contributing to an inclusive ethos and culture are: Teacher Professional Development and Parental Involvement.

Firstly, teachers need professional development/ training in order, to be more knowledgeable and  confidently deliver approaches that will support the individual needs of all learners. Since, a positive school ethos is important to developing good relationships.

Secondly, parental involvement where parents take an active role in their child's learning and are encouraged to work in partnership with the school. This will assist in promoting a more positive and inclusive environment.

Akeesha I totally agree with your sentiments about parental involvement. Partnering and collaborating with parents is vital to creating that inclusive ethos and culture at any school.

I also agree with both of your statement. it should also be noted that planning events in collaboration with not just parents but all stake holders such as sports, Christmas concerts etc., can serve to create bonds among all, since it can magnify the energy felt while interacting with each other. This can aid in gaining insights into the  everyday relationships shared, within the overall school environment.

Yes, parental involvement is key to any learner's progress. If there is not that support from at home, no matter what we implement to support the learner the lack of follow through at home creates a deficit in learning.

You are so right in your post. There must be Teacher Professional Development and Parental involvement. What also comes to my mind is the fact that these special children will be learning alongside others who do not possess any special need. Therefore, bringing awareness to learner diversity and uniqueness in the classroom will cultivate a learning community in the classroom among children who respect and appreciate each others differences and aids in each others learning.
