One such professional development experience is that of mentorship. The training was over four days, one day in every week. It was interactive, realistic and purposeful. I had to roleplay and show instances how this can be done and implement it in my school. I was placed as mentors to facilitate this task in my school. As an educator, our colleagues, students and by large parents who enters the school compound needs support. Being a team player, active steward and a strong and positive educator in the system, observing issues relating to colleagues and students are some ways in which being a mentor can assist. At the end, I was given the opportunity to relate of an issue observed in my school and share it. We should never take anyone for granted and we all have problems and needs help at some point.
My school has no guidance counsellor and as such, being a mentor can fill the gaps of one such person to some extent. As an educator, visiting the homes of the students, having a good relationship with parents and community personnel, can be a start for greatness Being a mentor is needed in all schools for creating an inclusive school now more than ever.
