Professional development is effective and beneficial to the
development and improvement of one's teaching practice, and because education
is a dynamic field that evolves over time, teachers must be willing lifelong
learners in order to provide the best opportunities for success to all children
while incorporating/implementing all strategies, techniques and tips into
their teaching practice to meet the needs of all learners. There were various formal
professional development courses in which I participated that provided many
valuable insights and strategies that are being used in the classroom to
improve the teaching/learning process. They all challenged my thinking and
helped me to improve my practice for the better, but it was the informal one that stood
out and continues to stand out for me the most, working hand in hand with my
colleagues; an example of one way in which we collaborated was by assisting in
the creation of learning resources/materials based on the term's theme that are
tailored to the children's individual needs and then placed in each learning
center for daily use. Whether professional development activities are conducted
formally or informally, the goal should always be to improve/enhance the children's learning in some way through the knowledge one has gained.
