In an inclusive school it means all children will be given the same opportunities for learning. With that being said, a very important feature to look at are the policies in an inclusive school.
School policies should clearly state that all children have the rights to an equal education without barriers, biases or limitations. Policies should also welcome all children and celebrate diversity. Allowing children to be in a culturally safe environment where their differences are valued.
In my country, our education system includes various cultural celebrations. These celebrations are planned for in our curriculum. For these various celebrations, we plan developmentally appropriate activities that will give children insight of other cultural backgrounds that are different from their own.
At my school, we facilitate hands on learning and provide adequate materials needed to carry out these activities. Sometimes the parents are involved and they provide learning materials based on the celebration. We use observations and questioning to assess if the objectives for the activity has been met. It is always rewarding when i hear the excitement in the children's voice as they relate what they have done or seen and that is evidence that learning is taking place.
