Activity 2.2 Policies for an inclusive ethos

Inclusive education is one of the most important concepts of teaching, and is based on the ideology that all members of the class and school have a right to be treated as an equal. This also includes ensuring that each student has access to learning, and has the opportunity to reach their full potential in the classroom environment (Loreman, Deppeler and Harvey).

A school that I know encourages positive behaviour management by setting classroom rules, where the entire class has an input. In everything that we do in life, rules are important. In the classroom rules were used to define the behaviours expected and to set boundaries. From the first day of class, the rules are established. The teacher involves the class in coming up with rules for the entire class. The teacher then goes through the importance of rules with the class and the consequences involved when they break or don’t follow the rules. Allowing the children to be part of the process, encourages inclusivity and gives the children a sense of belonging and pride.
