act1.7 Monitoring inclusive schools

A school I taught at, uses an open door policy with regards to inclusion. Parents of special needs students are welcomed to come in and have discussions with staff about the needs of their child. However mere discussion alone isn't enough. depending on the nature of the special need that the child possess, the school often times is not prepared with the adequate resources required and thus may still refuse entry to some students with special needs.

Hi Leahnoria,

You are so correct, while there are school that claim they operate with an open policy, they are most times not equip to provide for children with disabilities. Many schools try to facilitate children with disabilities but are unable to because of the lack of resources, staff training and proper physical environment to cater to the children needs.

It takes all the stakeholders including the government working together to promote and provide the necessary resources needed to make inclusion a reality in our schools.
