Activity 3.3 Being an effective inclusive teacher.

Inclusion means everyone. The schools following inclusive education provides good quality education to all types of learners, those with and without disabilities. Their belief is that all children can learn under the same roof, thus teachers in inclusive schools should possess certain qualities to be able to cater to the diverse needs of all their children. The following are some of the qualities of being an effective inclusive teacher. 

 An inclusive teacher:

- Knows that all children can learn and each one of them can be given a good quality education.

- Should possess a positive attitude towards inclusive education and be sensitive to the needs of differently abled children, taking care that no child feels neglected and every child experiences a sense of belongingness,

- Need to be cheerful, approachable and accessible  to make children feel comfortable.

- Is patient and confident. 

- Is a keen observer and is able to identify the needs of diverse learners, with and without disabilities.

- Knows how to communicate and work collaboratively with peers, parents and school leaders to help learners overcome challenges.

- Focuses not only on what children can't do but what they could do.

- Know how to use a variety of teaching aids and learning resources.

- Knows different teaching strategies and procedures and when to use them to match the needs of the learners.

- Knows about different tools and techniques that can be used to appropriately evaluate different learners.

- Is able to develop teaching aids and resources that will cater to the needs of all learners.

- Provide opportunities for group work to allow for children to mix.
