The SBTD is very similar to weekly department meetings that are
held with the teachers from the various subject areas. These department
meetings are usually chaired by the head of department. A number of topics
regarding curriculum delivery and assessments are discussed as well as problems
encountered in the classroom and professional development. Teachers are usually
encouraged to brainstorm ideas and share their best practices as well as
suggest ways to address an issue. Sometimes the head of department mat suggest
a resource or literature that might share light on the issue and ways to
address.
This structure works well
in my context however with learning taking place remotely these meetings are
important to discuss issues especially as staff members can meet virtually only
for that particular time . It may not work well if a teacher is unwilling to
share the issues that are encountered in the classroom. Then he or she would
not get the necessary support in a timely manner.
