In the list I’m seeing
points three and four as easy and very doable. It is something similarly
practiced at my school, so I can relate to it. Having parents involved in
school activities are very important. However, getting parents out to meetings
are sometimes a great challenge.
Points one and two are
really great points, however, having parents just drop in especially during an
activity, can pose to be problematic. Firstly, it’s a distraction for my
learners and some children behaviours change completely when they see their
parents. Also, there is no one to supervise my children when I have to step away
to speak with a parent. I would suggest an appointment schedule would be more
effective, where proper planning around the parent visit can happen. I love
point number two about providing breakfast for the children. However, in a
private school setting, getting persons to donate food items may be a
challenge. Also getting someone to cook the food may be another challenge.
While the ideas are really good, some serious planning and implementing would
have to take place before these things can happen. All hands need to be on deck
for these changes to be effective.
