Activity 1.3 The features of an inclusive school
The features of an inclusive school include: correct teacher attitudes, correct administrators and management attitudes- attitudes that are for pro inclusion e.g a welcoming administrator or teacher towards all students, resource allocation by school management that facilitate proper training to develop soft skills in teachers and to enable teachers to adapt the materials required to facilitate inclisivity, allowing or fostering discussions about inclusivity, working on physocal barriers that are not pro- inclusion e.g building ramps tp facilitate those who cannot use the stairs or take the lift and challenging beauracratic barriers.
These are very good and well explained points and I agree with them, because in building and inclusive school all should be involved in assisting students to achieve their full potential.

I agree miss Laurette with the statements made this really is the way an inclusive school system will enable children with learning and physical challenges to be able to learn freely.

I agree with all that you have stated in your post. Two important features of an inclusive school which stand out for me are teachers' attitude and the adoption of a physical environment equipped with things such as ramps, rails and adapted toilets. I work at a school that has adopted such a physical environment. However, of utmost importance is the issue of maintenance of the physical environment. For example, elevators were also installed to cater for students with disabilities, however, at present they are non functional and quite costly to repair.

1.3 Features of an Inclusive School
I totally agree Laurette a positive and having a open minded attitude by allowing and delivering inclusive practice in your teaching will surely support and create learning for all amongst the learners.
We want the students to achieve their full potential with or without disability. It is vital to recognise and remember that each school and their children are unique.Yes it is important to train the teachers ,support and show them step by step the skills needed to implement or deliver inclusion in their teaching.A short training like 2 or 4 days. during week. Then observe the teacher and allow them to deliver in the classroom.Give them advise when needed and WORK with them to still give the support and the positive attitude in providing Inclusive practice in the classroom.Give the support many times it is not one off. This will help give a more positive mind set to the teachers about implementing Inclusive education or learning in the school environment and in the classroom.
In a one school visit in the beginning of Term 2 this was a grade 5 class.I walked in and there sat a beautiful girl which you could recongnise she had weak hands .I was to model and demonstrate shared reading and guide reading.I knew if I gave written exercise after our reading and discussion this particular girl would not be able to cope with the rest of the class.
I had to first explain and help some of the students to change their attitude and show respect to this student. Also she had a right to be in the class like them. These few students as I walked in where already labeling her and making comments about her as I settled myself into their class on my visits.
I acted the story as I read and made the students act out key words in the stories and even the characters in the stories as I read along. It was a joy to her join in all the actions and she was even able to answer questions which she had no problems at all.I believe it is the role of the teacher to remind her students not to discriminate each other due to the physical ability we see in others.
The students had fun in their role plays by reacting the story again in their own words .It was a joy to see the rest of the students helping and accepting this girl in the class to be part of the learning process.Sharing and helping each other .In her group the students were very helpful and speaking more respectful to her.I had a dear friend by her to make sure she had the support and care while their group was rehearsing their lines. It was a joy to see them all learning together.
