A positive behavior
strategy that worked for me:
I was given a
remedial class. Students were unmotivated and felt discouraged because of how
they were treated in previous classes. They hardly completed assignments or
participated in class. After careful observation and record keeping, I took
note of their likes. I came up with a reward system for the entire class body
using a chart. If the entire class completes all given assignments in and out
of class, points would be given at the end of the day. Others included: class
participation, good behavior, observing rules and group work. At the end of two
weeks if they accumulated their quota of points they would be rewarded – movie day,
fun & games on the playing field, Art & Craft day, class party etc.
This worked
really well. Productivity and progress was seen at the end of the first term. It
is really important when we get to know our students and then be able to use
that knowledge to our advantage.
