I have learned that ‘Inclusive education is education that does
not exclude anyone – be it on grounds of disability, language, gender, class,
ethnicity or any other barrier that prevents a child from accessing,
participating and engaging in education and the benefits there of. Before this, course I normally thought of Inclusive education dealing only with students with some kind of learning and physical disability.
I will use what I learnt from this course to further strengthened my leadership driving an inclusive ethos in my school. It just takes one to make a difference. We have to remember children with disabilities have the potential to learn just like their peers. As Educators we need to remember that children with disabilities need early intervention to assist them to reach their full potential. Thus, it is important that mechanisms to identified and remove barriers to children’s learning be employed. Never as Educators must we leave out parents and other stakeholders in the process of creating an Inclusive Education School environment, because they have a lot to contribute.
