ü As a member of the school committee I would ask the head teacher:
1. Now that there is an open door policy do you have full parental support?
2. With all the changes in place has the student attendance increased?
3. Are all staff members open to this new policy?
Some suggestion to develop further two-way information are:
1. Open day where parent can come in and view their child and other children work.
2. Career day where student represent their career choice using the uniform etc.
3. Fairs/field trips for families and members of staff.
Having study these strategies I believe they will be easy to establish once there is team work among staff members.
Schools can work with families by:
1. Allowing parent/guardian to observe their child working in the classroom.
2. There should be qualified social work, guidance officer etc. to assist families that are in need to help that the school cannot assist with example government grants.
3. Providing incentives to promote attendance and academic performance.
