Two things that I would take forward from this course into my practice are:
1. Open door policy
2. Managing behavior.
1. Open door policy was referred to in week 4 of the course. It was a case study of leadership of a primary school in Jamaica where the new head teacher believed that the school belongs to the community. Presently at some school parents meet with the teacher once per term where they will be given update on their child which might be too late to conduct intervention. Going forward with the open door policy parents are welcomed to visit at any time to discuss any issue about their children. The classroom door will always be open so any member of staff can hear what is taking place.
2. Managing disruptive behavior in the classroom. Disability Directory GATE-GEC Sierra Leon informed us on what a teacher can do to manage disruptive behavior in a positive way. I have tried some of the strategies given but I am looking forward to trying this one “avoid handing over your authority to others.” For example, sending a disruptive pupil to the head teacher gives the message that you are not as important as the head. It is much better for you and the head teacher to see the pupil together. I chose this because most of the time I would send the student out just to get him/her out of the class but with this new information I will change this strategy.
