Reflections on Diagnosis: Facing the Unknown

Thinking about receiving an MND diagnosis brings up an immediate sense of shock and profound grief.

Knowing the disease is rapidly progressive and has no cure makes the future feel incredibly overwhelming.

If I received this diagnosis, my main worries would be:

  • The loss of independence: Fearing how quickly I will lose my speech and mobility.
  • The impact on loved ones: Worrying about the emotional and physical strain on my family.
  • The fear of progression:Anxiousness over what it will feel like when my breathing begins to fail.
  •
  • Sitting with these questions and having no answers highlights the intense anxiety people living with MND must face. As a care worker, this reminds me that emotional support and a calm presence are just as vital as physical care.
