The Vannam are a main component of the Kandyan dance form. The fairly complicated rhythmic forms of step and movement are from original dance patterns of the Kohomba Kankariya. These are solo poetic dances, sung and danced expressing a dominant idea.

Each Vannama is composed and interpreted in a certain mood or expression of sentiment.
