Welcome to the Welsh Levels of Care E-Learning Program!

This e-learning program has been created for NHS Wales staff to learn about the Welsh Levels of Care guidance and how to apply the guidance in practice to assess patient acuity.

There are five sections to review:

The Welsh Levels of Care - this section introduces the Welsh Levels of Care and their relation to the Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act (2016). This section also discusses the benefits of using the Welsh Levels of Care to assess patient acuity.

How to Choose the Level of Care – this section introduces the lay descriptors, clinical descriptors and nursing themes descriptors used to assess patient acuity within the Welsh Levels of Care. This section also introduces a simple four step approach to assessing patient acuity and provides hints and tips for completing acuity data.

Welsh Levels of Care: All Descriptors – this section provides a comprehensive online booklet of all of the descriptors for each of the 1-5 levels of care, including the lay descriptors, clinical descriptors and nursing themes descriptors.

Assessment – in this section there is a short assessment designed for learners to practice what they have learned.

Resources – this section contains downloadable documents, including the Welsh Levels of Care guidance, a link to the HEIW website for more information, and a glossary of terms used throughout this program.
