2.4 Operational Readiness

Operational readiness focuses on scalability, resilience and execution capability. Buyers place a premium on businesses that can continue to perform and grow without excessive reliance on any single individual, particularly the founder. A venture that depends heavily on founder intervention is perceived as higher risk and more difficult to integrate or scale.

Building operational readiness involves developing capable leadership teams, documenting key processes and investing in systems which support growth. Clear roles, decision-making structures and performance metrics help demonstrate that the business is run systematically rather than informally. This does not imply bureaucracy for its own sake, but rather a level of structure appropriate to the company’s stage and ambitions.

Operational resilience also matters. Companies that have navigated challenges, adapted to change and maintained performance over time signal robustness. Buyers are often less concerned with perfection than with evidence that the organisation can respond effectively to uncertainty.
