Everything on this hub (and on OpenLearn) is free to use.
I often direct my staff to OpenLearn resources when they face an unexpected challenge or begin to develop a passion for a particular aspect of practice. Access to such a wide range of free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) empowers colleagues to bring new approaches, ideas and evidence into our strategic planning. Headteacher, ScotlandThere are a number of ways you can use this hub. Using the topic areas, you can create your own professional development resource that you might wish to share with your colleagues. Senior leaders or Subject Leads may wish to curate a bespoke OpenLearn professional development set, aligned with your school’s priorities and shared with staff for completion in professional development time or for discussion at staff meetings.

Anyone can study an OpenLearn course, read an article or watch a video without creating an account. However, to have your learning recognised (so that you earn a certificate or a digital badge on an OpenLearn course) you must create an account, which will provide any learner with an OpenLearn profile. This profile can be made public or private and records your learning progress and achievements.
There are no forums on OpenLearn courses but all learners with an account can do the following:
- leave a review for a course or comment on an article
- edit their OpenLearn profile
You can find out more about how to make the most of OpenLearn and how to navigate the site on our About us page and in the accompanying animation.
